Welcome,
I invite you to enjoy a stay in my traditional stone built cottage, in the heart of the National Park of the Cevennes, at La Fare Hamlet, at 650m altitude. You will find a range of services and local shops at a nearby village, St Germain de Calberte, located at 6km from la Fare.
The room for hire has direct access to a large terrace where you can chill out, read, write or just doze… surrounded by rose trees, clematis, camelia, and rose-bays… A walking path runs near the house inviting you to a journey through the flora, the wildlife, the traditional architecture of the schist land, and the history of our mountains and its inhabitants.
I would be delighted to share with you my knowledge of the local area. After studying geology, I set up a local organisation called “Schisto” aiming at promoting the Cevennes area to everyone.
I am passionate about artistic photography which I’m also happy to share with you. I practice and teach photography and deliver basic and intensive courses in Black&White photography in the laboratory adjacent to the house.
Just to recap, if you are looking for authentic holidays and wish to discover the real Cevennes, you have found the perfect place! Welcome to La Fare.

- Continue to drive until the end of the tarmac road (about 5km) until the hamlet of La Fare

Things to see and do:
Outdoor activities: a huge variety of walks, on foot or with a donkey! Follow the small themed walking paths, the signed local network (“GR”), or the Stevenson path, one of the most famous routes of the area…
- Horse riding at the holiday village “Lou Serre de la Can”, only 10 km away.
- Swimming in the rivers’ natural “pools”, canyoning, and for those who prefer more conventional swims, there’s a swimming pool at the holiday village. Fishing in the 1st category rivers.
Nature and culture: there are many local attractions and lots of exhibitions and events organised by local groups or by the National Park as part of the Nature festival designed to make you discover the natural heritage and the cultural identity of our region.
Art: Painting courses with Alix de Massy, different levels and techniques, in a breathtaking location.

History of la Fare ....
This hamlet, quoted in middle-age literature, became the refuge of foreign anti-fascist activists mainly from Germany during the second world ward. Alerted by local farmers, some thirty refugees managed to escape after an attack from the police on 12th February 1944, which dynamited all the houses of the hamlet. The place was left abandoned until the early 1990s when a group of young people started to redevelop the hamlet and rebuilt a number of stone houses using traditional methods and local materials. Nowadays there are 20 inhabitants, half of them-including myself live in the hamlet throughout the year.
