OUR GITES

Our two nice and comfortable gites (holiday homes)

We have renovated our old barn into two gites,
each one for 4 to 6 people.

Gîte Bertrand

Inside the walls are isolated with a mixture of hemp and chalk so the form of the walls are well preserved while creating a nice atmosphere.

Add to that double glazing, the use of local wood for the doors and the ceilings, the roof covered with plants and the floor heating by solar panels and you will understand why we have received two prices: one for the high ecological value and the other for the preservation of a typical old building.

Authenticity

&  comfort

We have kept and renovated the old stone walls and the beautiful vaulted doors.

Gîte Bertrand

The gite has two floors, a spacious living room with a well equipped open kitchen (micro wave-oven, dish washer).

There is one master bedroom with a double bed and a bed room with two times two single beds, one above the other (= 4 single beds).

THE CAMP SITE

The gites are located in the middle of our campsite, opened from the first of June till the first week of September.

Since the camp site is naturist, the gites are naturist too during this period.

There is a swimming pool and a children’s play area and the baker passes each day in summer.

We serve a meal on our terrace and in this period we organise a guided visit of our house, dating from 1200.

For more information about the campsite see our other site :  www.la-combe.com

WHERE ABOUT

The two gites are located some 500 yards below our “manor” La Combe de Ferrière,
on our terrain of 40 hectares amidst the chestnut grooves. So it’s quiet.

Our village at 3,5 miles is called St. Michel de Dèze and is half way between Ales and Florac on the R.N. 106 and 55 miles north west from Nimes.

We are on the edge of the National Parc of the Cevennes and are under the influence of the Mediterranean.

HIKING

Definitely an area for walking and we have 8 described walks starting from our house and lots more when you start a bit further on. The Grand Randonnée passes above our house.

THE SURROUNDINGS

We are situated in the middle of the Cévennes, a middle-high mountainous area covered with chestnut trees and small steams. And nature, lots of it. And calm and quiet, very quiet. You can still hear the silence here. And see the stars !

Automne

TO DO

You can also rent bikes but you need to be in good condition: it is steep.

We are 20 miles from the famous Gorges du Tarn and the Causses, the chalk plateaus and the granite area of the Mont Lozère.

Close by you can rent a donkey to go walking with the kids and in Florac you can go explore the caves (spéleo) or go canoeing.

TO VISIT

To visit we suggest Nimes (Roman times) Anduze (bambousaraie) Arles (festival) Vézenobre (mediaeval village) and Uzes (duke-city).

In a 20 mile radius there are several small musea and a bit further on the so called Chaos of Nimes, the underground river the Branaboo and the castle of Portes.

How to find us

Michelin map no 80

When on the map it says: St. Michel de Dèze, you have to read: St.Michel le Vieux.

When it says Valescure (on the R.N. 106) you have to read St Michel de Dèze.

For the naturist campsite go to : www.la-combe.com

Coming from Ales
go direction Florac/Mende on the R.N.106. About midway, take the D13, direction Col de Pendedis, to your left, just after having passed Collet de Déze. Follow the D13 for about 8 miles and you are at the Col de Pendedis. Keep right and after 50 yards, after the first house on your right, turn right into a small road, leading towards St. Michel de Déze. Follow this road for a mile and you have arrived.

When coming from Florac
take the R.N. 106 direction Ales and turn right at the Col de Jalcreste towards Les Ayres. Pass through this hamlet and keep on going till you get at a T-crossing. Turn left and after a little you will see three signpost (St. Martin de Boubaux, La grandÇombe and Collet de Dèze.) Turn back in the direction you came from and after 50 yards, on your right, just after the first house on you right take the little road leading towards St. Michel de Dèze.. It is difficult to see the little road coming from that direction, so that’s why I propose to simply turn around !
