MEYRUEIS 

Superficies: 10 468 hectares.
Population: 907 h.

This small town and capital of the 'canton' is founded by the romans, it has gained in importance mainly in the Middle Ages. Seat of a Baron and administrative centre before the revolution, the city still has some interesting remainders of its past, like the mediaeval quarter of the town, houses from the XV to the XVIIth century, The Saint Peter Church (1663), and the protestant 'temple' (1804).

Guided visites are regularly organised by the Tourist Information Office. Signs and pannels make also individual walks and visites possible. In Meyrueis you will find all public services and shops. There is an important number of hotels, campsites, cottages, holiday-villages and bed & breakfast lodgings.

Life in Meyrueis is animated, the atmosphere is typical South French,  a little walk under the plane-trees in the centre of Meyrueis will convince you.

In summer-season, different musical- and cultural programmes are organised in completion to the large number of sportive activities, which can be undertaken in this natural environment.
Nearby the city, the Casttle of Roquedols offers a haven of peace. The Natural Parc of the Cévennes exposes their different expositions and keeps in the summermonths  an Information Desk. Also the famous 'Grotte de Dargilan' open for public for over 100 year, is in this commune.

GATUZIERES

Superficies2 940 h.
Population: 42 h.

Gatuzières

The commune Gatuzières is situated in the highest part of the Jonte valley.
It's a very little village, 5 km of Meyrueis, with a  roman (XIIth century) church and a protestant church.
This commune is essentially agricultural: sheep-breeding at the higher caussenards parts and goath-breeding in the lower valley of Jontanels.
Recently there are a lot of new producers of quit new ecological products like cheese, angora-wool, jams, or meats.

You're invited all year to visit the farm with angora-rabits and there 'neighbours' who make cheese, please reservate :04 66 45 65 72.

FRAISSINET DE FOURQUES

Superficies: 2 430 h.
Population: 62 h.

This commune is situated above the Col de Perjuret and the Tarnon river.. She is stretching out at the Causse Méjean, encircling the special ruiniform rocks of  Nîmes-le-Vieux, sculpted by erosion.
In the middle of this cuty little place  stands a  roman church which was the scene of a  drama during the Camisards war (1703).
Of agricultural vocation,  the commune also possesses  a slate-stone quarry

Fraissinet de Fourques.
During the last several years it is opening up to towards tourism by creation of  'gîtes ruraux', ' fermes auberges' and little   structures to visit the creation local productst,and to buy them at the farm .

HURES -LA -PARADE

Superficies: 8 859 h.
Population: 164 h.

Born out of the fusion of the former   communes  Hures and La Parade, she is stretching out at the Causse Méjean and a  part of the Gorges de la Jonte.
      This explains the presence of several roman churches (Hures, La Parade, St Gervais des Douzes).
Rightly well-kown is the roman Cross of le Buffre.
The economical activity is a mixture of agriculture and  tourism; The famous Aven Armand is at it's territory .
In May 1944 there's been  a violent combat between the resistance group Bir-Hackeim and the nazies.

A monument in the village La Parade, commemorates the dead of 61 résistants. The unique primary school of the Causse is lodged in La Parade and there is a  coopération "Causses Lozére"which elaborates traditional meats and other farm-made products. 

In the village of HYELZAS during a lot of years there has been renovated and created  "La Ferme Caussenarde d'Autrefois".
A musuem which illustrated the tradional rural life and the process of cheese-making from sheep-milk collected all over the Causses.

SAINT -PIERRE -DES -TRIPIERS

Superficies: 3 474 h.
Population: 63 h.

This communes territory is at the Causse Méjean stretching out to the Gorges de la Jonte and left-bank of the Gorges du Tarn.

The village  St Pierre is founded in the Middle Ages around a roman priory of which is still left the beautiful little church.

It's rich of interesting sites like  the 'Arcs de St Pierre', the 'Corniche du Tarn','Corniche de la Jonte', and the Vase de Sèvres ...
It's architecture and those of the surrounding hamlets is of a special beauty.

The agriculture is the main ressource although tourism is developping little by little.  
The exceptional environment  gives the ideal conditions for Gîtes, chambres d'hôtes, or rentals.

New  activities has been created around the ' ferme d'accueil de la Viale':nature discovery sojourns for children and outdour sports practice.
Since 1980 the griffon vulture has been re-introduced with succes.

LE ROZIER                                                                           Superficies: 203 h.
Population: 157 h.

Dominated by the impressionating rock the Capluc, settled at the  confluent of the Tam and the Jonte with a superb  XII-th century church the village is essentially living of tourism.

Hôtels, campsites, rentals and chambres d'hôtes receives a lot of visitors.
It's a very good point to start walks, to go for climbing, or to hire a canoe at the Tarn.
It's geographical situation explains everything: the gateway to the Gorges, a nice setting and close to Millau and the A 75.

A little museum is lodged in the former  priory. It's miniature monuments  permits to go through the typical regional architecture.
